What We Do

Caring Caps was started on November of 2010 and has been growing ever since. We currently knit hats, headbands, teddy bears, and baby booties for children and babies in need around the world. We teach every volunteer how to knit on a loom and provide them with all the supplies (yarn, looms, etc). We also support crocheting and needle knitting, so if you know how to crochet or needle-knit, we will help you get started. Knitting your first hat will take less than one hour and you can knit anywhere! Our charity offers freedom for the volunteers. Once we rent you a loom (for free), you can take on an airplane, knit while watching tv, or knit at 3 a.m. in the morning! For those need community service hours for scholarships, Caring Caps is applicable! We hold a meeting every other week at Bayside High School and will soon be offering meetings at our headquarters once every two months for those that don't attend Bayside High. Don't live near us? Not a problem! We have Skype meetings with our long-distance knitters to help them through the volunteer process.

Caring Caps is teamed up with Air Mobile Ministries (airmobile.org), First Baptist Church of Melboure, and Suntree United Methodist Church.  These 3 organizations allow us to send our hats everywhere. We have hats either in or on their way to Panama, Haiti, Jamaica, and Alaska. Please support these organizations as they have helped us fulfill our dream.  Because of them, 250 hats have been knitted and we have about 25 knitters involved!

So, how can you help out? Click on the page "Get Involved" and fill out the form linked there if you are not a current registered volunteer. Below is a form for already active volunteers if you are wishing to switch jobs:

Volunteer Openings

Want to try a new activity? Fill out this form if you are interested in knitting or making a new item.

Below are the items we are currently in need of. You will notice that the loom type is listed beside each job. Choose a job you would like to preform!

Note that when you rent a new tool/loom, you will need to return your current loom/tool. When you pin up your new loom/tool, be prepared to return your current one (i.e. don't have any knitting projects on the loom when you return it).

When would you like to pick-up your loom/tool? If you select on of the 1st two choices, we will email to schedule what day you should pick it up from your desired location.
